Katey Sagal was born into a Jewish family that is into show business. While her father Boris Sagal, is a well known director, her mother Sara Zwilling worked as a producer. She is elder to her twin sisters Jean Sagal and Liz Sagal, both of whom are actresses and she is also the sister of Joe Sagal, who is also an actor. In addition she is the younger sister of David, who studied at Harvard and is a lawyer.
Katey grew up with her siblings in the Mandeville Canyon area of Brentwood in Los Angeles, California. She studied at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California where she learnt voice and acting. She started performing when she was only five years old. During her “salad” years, Katey worked as a singing waitress.
55-year-old Katey has been married thrice. Her first marriage was to bass player Freddie Beckmeier and it lasted from three years, from 1978 to 1981. In December 1989, when she was two months pregnant with her first child, she suffered a miscarriage. Later, Katie was again pregnant in 1991, but in October 1991, during the seventh month of pregnancy, she had to undergo an emergency caesarean section and gave birth to a stillborn daughter, whom she named Ruby Jean.
In November 1993, Katey married Jack White, who was an actor. The couple’s daughter Sarah Grace White was born on 7th August 1994.Later the couple also had a son who was born on 1st March 1996 and was named Jackson James White. Four years later, Katey and Jack ended their marriage, in July 2000.
Katey married her current husband Kurt Sutter, who is a writer, producer and actor in 2004. They have one daughter named Esmé Louise Sutter, who was carried by a surrogate mother and was born on 10th January 2007.
Katey started her career when she began working the Hollywood circuit. Later she appeared in many made for TV movies and also worked as working as a backing vocalist for various singers. In 1978, she was asked by the KISS bassist Gene Simmons to sing background vocals in his solo album. At almost the same time she was also a member of The Group With No Name, which was a rock group.
In 1979, she was hired as one of The Harlettes, on the tour of Bette Midler, for whom she had been singing backup. Being a songwriter she contributed to the album of The Group With No Name, titled Moon over Brooklyn. She released her first solo album, Well…., in April 1994 and then released her second album Room ten years later, in June 2004.
Katie has proved her acting caliber both on the small screen as well as the big screen. As an actress on television she has portrayed various characters in numerous shows which include Mary, Married With Children, That 70’s Show, Futurama, Lost, Boston Legal, The Shield, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Eli Stone and Sons of Anarchy etc.
In the world of movies Katey has made a name for herself by playing roles in the films Maid to Order, The Good Mother, Dropping Out, Recess: School’s Out, Following Tildy, I’m Reed Fish and Jack and the Beanstalk, with the last one currently in the process of post-production.
Besides this, Katey has also performed in the soundtracks of Plain Clothes, Loose Cannon, Futurama, Futurama: Bender’s Big Score and Sons of Anarchy.
From 1991 to 1994, Katey has been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards four times. Each time she was nominated under the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series - Comedy/Musical, for her work in Married With Children. In addition, she has also won the Prism Award in 2005 under the category of Performance in a Comedy Series for her role in 8 Simple Rules… for Dating My Teenage Daughter. She also won the Innovator Award at the TV Land Awards in 2009, for her role in Married With Children.

In Married With Children, Katey plays the role of Peggy Bundy. She is the lethargic wife of Al Bundy who shies away from cooking and cleaning the house and instead of washing dirty clothes prefers to buy new ones. She has no inkling for taking up a job and spends her days sitting on her favorite family couch, watching daytime talk shows and eating lots of bonbons. She constantly spends the meager earnings of Al for buying expensive clothes and useless junk and even steals from her children to get more cash. However, in spite of her wrong behavior, she is generally able to charm men, including Al, whenever she chooses to work. But, she never thinks of cheating on Al even though quite unlike him, she enjoys marital sex.
