David Garrison was born as the son of Maude B. and Earl B. Garrison. His mother was a teacher while his father worked as a school administrator. He attended Boston University’s School of Fine Arts, and graduated summa cum laude.
David is a licensed whitewater river guide and has homes in both New York and Mexico. There is no record about whether the actor has been married at any point of time in his life. However, currently he is rumored to be dating Broadway actress, Patricia Ben Peterson.
Even though David has worked and continues to make guest appearances on TV shows, his first love has always been theatre. It was his passion for theatre that ked him to leave the super hit TV show, Married With Children midway, to return to working on Broadway, where he has earned a name for himself prominently as a actor for musicals.
He has worked in plays like Titanic, Torch Song Trilogy, The Pirates of Penzance, Guys and Dolls, Travesties, Die Fledermaus and numerous others.
David has been a part of numerous TV shows in which he has been seen portraying various characters. His most prominent shows include, It’s Your Move, Murphy Brown, Married With Children, Law & Order, Family Law, Judging Amy, Ed, The Practice, Without A Trace, NYPD Blue, The West Wing and various other shows.
In addition to TV shows, Ted has also worked in a handful of movies which are, The Midnight Man, Creepshow, Whirlygirl and iChannel.
His work in theatre earned Ted a nomination for the prestigious Tony Awards in 1980. He received the nomination for the Best Actor for his work in the Broadway play A Day in Hollywood, a Night in the Ukraine. Later, in 1990, for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, he won a Helen Hayes Award, and in 1996 also earned a Drama Desk nomination for his role in the Off-Broadway production I Do! I Do!
Role In Married With Children
In Married With Children, Ted played the role of Steve Rhoades. He was the first husband of Marcy and the next door neighbor of the Bundy family. He worked as banker and was unfazed by the fact that his wife was working at a higher position. At first Steve used to humiliate the Bundys, but in due course he became more like them. Gradually he started looking up to Al for male companionship. Marcy became attracted to Steve due to his egotistical covetousness. Despite the fact that Steve came across as a fairly modest and buttoned-down character, he had a dark side to him. Steve’s character had to be written out of the show in the fourth season, when David decided to leave the show. As such Steve was made to suddenly disappear, with the explanation that he wanted become a forest ranger at Yosemite National Park.
