Amanda Bearse was brought up in Atlanta, Georgia. She studied at the Young Harris College that is a private Methodist-affiliated junior college of liberal arts and is located in northeast Georgia. She then moved to New York, where she attended the New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse and was taught acting by Sanford Meisner. Later, she also attended the American Film Institute and USC in Los Angeles, where she studied directing.
In 1993, Amanda made the announcement that she was a lesbian. Her statement to this effect in the Advocate Magazine, made headlines as she was the first and the only primetime actress at that time, who had publicly come out open about her sexual preferences. Amanda currently lives with her partner and her adopted daughter Zoe, in Atlanta. She is also attending Georgia State University at present.
Amanda has worked in a number of prominent shows on television. She has portrayed varying characters on shows like All My Children, Goddess of Love, Likely Suspects, Here Come the Munsters, Married With Children, Nikki, Here! Family, and many more.
Amanda started her film career with very small roles and then moved on to play vital roles. She has worked in just about five movies which include Protocol, Fraternity Vacation, Fright Night, The Doom Generation and Give or Take an Inch.
The numbers of projects that have been directed by Amanda are greater than those she has acted in. Her prominent directorial ventures include Malcolm & Eddie, Married With Children, The Tom Show, Rude Awakening, Dharma & Greg, Reba, MADtv, Situation: Comedy, and various others. She is currently directing projects for the American TV channel, Logo. In addition, she has directed as well as produced the TV show The Big Gay Sketch Show, besides working as a writer for a few episodes of Married With Children.
Role In Married With Children
In Married With Children, Amanda plays the role of Marcy D’Arcy. She is the next door neighbor of the Bundy family as well as the best friend of Peggy and the archenemy of Al Bundy. She was married to Steve Rhoades at first but after his sudden disappearance, she married Jefferson D’Arcy. She works at Bank where she holds a vital position. At the start of the show, Marcy was introduced as a sweet, wholesome newlywed, but as she continued to live in the neighborhood of the Bundy family for many years, she gradually became as outrageous as the Bundys. She disapprovingly quarreled with Al, and used to enjoy whenever he was his misery. One of the reasons why she hates Al so much is because he harbors a chauvinistic and misogynistic view about women. It often seemed that Marcy had a upsetting dark side, and she frequently used to get lost in her past memories while talking about them with Peggy.
